For
those people who have a large power use or who cannot afford to
immediately purchase a solar or solar/wind hybrid power system,
a generator/hybrid power system may be a viable alternative, rid
power system may be a viable alternative.
Initially
the power system may consist of just a petrol or diesel generator
with power only available while the generator is running, a second
stage where a battery bank and inverter/charger is added will
provide the convenience of 24 hour power, reduce fuel and maintenance
costs and reduce noise pollution. Later as finances allow, solar
modules or a wind generator can be added to the system to reduce
generator run times and costs further still. Marine and RV use.
The sizes recommended for marine usage are generally either the
12 or 22 watt unit.
The
choice between the two is generally taken on your battery load
requirements and the expected frequency usage of the vessel. Our
recommendation is as follows: 12W module-used generally where
loads are only for lights, radios and pump, with a frequency of
usage of approximately once a month in winter and once fortnightly
summer months. 22W module-used where loads are heavier, with weekly
use in the summer and fortnightly use in the winter months.
The
smaller 2W an 5W modules are ideal where the vessel/vehicle is
left fore many months, the smaller panels will ensure the battery
is maintained without excessive gassing of the batteries. These
solar panels are also useful where the battery is simply required
to maintain its state of charge, for protection against self discharge.
